What Pair Of Glasses Will You Wear Today?

“Rather than living every day as if it’s my last, I’ve shifted to a gentler approach of living every day as if it’s my first. I want to wake up and meet the day with the wonder of a newborn, to cultivate childlike qualities like curiosity and play.” - Suleika Jaquad

I’ve long been enamored with the quote attributed to Gandhi, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” It suggests throwing caution to the wind while also planting roots in one’s long life learning. But, American writer and co-star (and wife) of Jon Batiste’s film “American Symphony” Suleika Jaquad offers a more playful, audacious, and curious approach to curating one’s life.

How might you approach today from Suleika’s perspective? How might you operate with the eyes of a four-year-old and the idealism of a seven-year-old today?

P.S. For those of you who are interested in exploring more intergenerational collaboration in your lives, I recommend the Encore Network’s upcoming “What Young Leaders Want — and Don’t Want — from Older Allies” on July 17 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm EDT. CoGenerate’s Sarah McKinney Gibson will provide an overview of the research, which asked the question “How can younger leaders and older allies work together effectively to achieve social change?” In addition to learning about the study, you’ll hear about plans for next steps and offer ample opportunity for you to engage in a spirited dialogue about how to improve intergenerational collaboration.
